The much-awaited return of IPL 2025 could face an early hurdle as bad weather threatens to disrupt the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Heavy rainfall in Bengaluru in recent days has already caused flooding in several areas, and forecasts suggest more showers are likely on match day.
As per weather reports from AccuWeather, a 71% chance of rain is expected around 7 PM — the scheduled time for the toss. The day will begin with a 25% chance of rain at 1 PM, rising steadily to 58% by 5 PM. The probability peaks just as the evening game is set to begin, raising serious concerns about a delayed or washed-out encounter.
Chinnaswamy’s Drainage System Faces a Big Test
Despite the grim forecast, fans and players can take solace in the fact that the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is equipped with one of the best drainage systems in India. This could help reduce delays and maximise playing time if there are rain interruptions. The ground staff is also known for efficient management, which might help get the match underway quickly if conditions permit.
Fortunately, rain chances start to drop later in the evening, with a 49% chance around 9 PM and further decreasing to 34%. This offers hope for at least a shortened game if the weather clears in time.
High Stakes for RCB and KKR
The stakes are high, especially for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who are just one win away from securing a playoff spot. A grand tribute is also planned at the stadium to honour Virat Kohli’s Test retirement, adding emotional significance to the night.
KKR fans will be hoping for a full game too, especially after already suffering a washout earlier in the season against Punjab Kings. That match was abandoned after just one over of their chase.
