Karun Nair has moved one step closer to his dream of returning to the Indian Test team. The right-handed batter has been included in the India A squad for the upcoming tour of England. Nair’s selection comes after a brilliant domestic season, reigniting hopes of a national comeback following years of being sidelined.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan celebrated the moment by sharing a heartfelt post on social media. Referencing Nair’s emotional 2022 tweet, where he wrote “Dear cricket, give me one more chance,” Pathan replied, “Karun Nair getting selected for India A is clear indication that dear cricket will give him another chance to play for Team India again.”
Stellar Domestic Season Earns Nair a Deserved Call-Up
Once a rising star in Indian cricket, Karun Nair famously scored a triple century in only his third Test but was soon dropped and never returned to the senior team. In 2022, he was even dropped from Karnataka’s state squad. However, the 2024–25 domestic season saw a revival of his fortunes.
Representing Vidarbha, Nair was unstoppable in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, amassing 779 runs in just eight innings, including five centuries—four of them consecutively. He followed that up with 863 runs in the Ranji Trophy, playing a key role in Vidarbha’s title win with a century and a fifty in the final against Kerala.
Big Opportunity on England Tour
India A will play two matches against England Lions before facing the Indian senior team in warm-up games ahead of the five-Test series. With senior batters like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retiring from the longest format, Nair’s experience and current form make him a serious contender for a middle-order role in the national side.
A successful tour with India A could complete one of the most inspiring comeback stories in recent Indian cricket history.
