Chennai Super Kings’ uncapped pacer Anshul Kamboj has emerged as a surprise contender for India’s upcoming Test series in England. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming praised the youngster after his impressive performances in IPL 2025, calling him “deceptive” and “a potential handful in English conditions.”
Kamboj, who clocks speeds around 138–139 kmph, has been making waves in the ongoing IPL with his consistent lengths and subtle movement off the pitch.
“He is deceptive, and the ball always seems to hit the gloves harder than expected,” said Fleming. “His big strength is his length and how he gets the ball to wobble just enough.”
BCCI May Pick Kamboj Amid Shami Fitness Concerns
With senior pacer Mohammed Shami still under an injury cloud, the BCCI selectors are expected to announce the squad for the England tour later this week. Kamboj has already featured for India A against the England Lions and is expected to take part in the upcoming intra-squad warm-up match.
A strong performance there could push him into serious contention for a Test debut.
A Seam-Friendly Future?
Fleming believes Kamboj’s ability to exploit seam-friendly conditions and control swing makes him well-suited for a tour of England.
“He’s shown great temperament under pressure. What excites me is how well he controls the ball when the pitch offers even a little assistance. That’s not easy to teach—it’s instinctive, and he’s got it.”
With the Test series against England set to begin in June, Anshul Kamboj may soon become the latest name to join India’s fast-bowling arsenal.
