Indian cricketer KL Rahul has revealed that throughout his career, he has had little say in his batting position, often being moved around the order to meet the needs of the team. In a candid interview, Rahul said that he has learned to adapt rather than question the decisions made by team management.
“I don’t think I really had a choice,” Rahul said. “I’ve never been a player to speak with selectors or captains and say, ‘This is where I want to bat.’ I’ve just wanted to be in the team and adapt to any challenge thrown at me.”
Rahul, who has played in various positions ranging from opener to No. 7, emphasized that flexibility and mindset have defined his role in the Indian team.
Reflects on Test Failures: “We Should Have Batted Better”
Rahul also addressed India’s recent struggles in Test cricket, particularly the 0-3 loss to New Zealand at home and the defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“We should have batted better. Losing three Tests at home in familiar conditions isn’t ideal. New Zealand applied pressure, didn’t give easy runs, and forced mistakes,” he said.
Rahul acknowledged that India failed to win crucial moments and repeated mistakes from one series to another.
Looking Ahead
With India entering a transition phase following the retirement of stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket, Rahul’s experience and adaptability could prove vital. Whether he returns to an opening role or takes up a middle-order slot, his ability to adjust remains one of his key strengths as India looks to rebuild its red-ball dominance.
