Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was recently told by a fan to “leave my beloved CSK” during a YouTube live chat. The emotional moment came after Chennai Super Kings finished at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, a first in the franchise’s history. Ashwin, who was picked for INR 9.75 crore, underperformed this season and was dropped midway.
CSK Fan’s Comment and Ashwin’s Emotional Reaction
While discussing the IPL season during his live stream, Ashwin noticed a comment from a CSK supporter saying, “Hi dear Ashwin, with lots of love, please leave my lovely CSK family.”
Ashwin didn’t ignore the remark. Instead, he addressed it directly with honesty and emotion.
“Let’s not make one mistake. I understand what you’re saying. I love this team deeply and I’ve always played with the team’s best interest in mind,” he said.
Ashwin assured fans he’s aware of his poor form and is working hard to improve. He said he was especially disappointed with his bowling in the powerplay and is already planning new strategies for next season.
Ashwin’s Stats and the Team’s Struggles
In IPL 2025, Ashwin played nine matches and took seven wickets at an average of 40.42 and an economy of 9.12. His performance was considered one of the weaker links in CSK’s bowling attack.
Despite the criticism, Ashwin defended his place in the team by reminding fans of his long-standing loyalty.
“I love this team more than many of you do. I’ve been with CSK since 2009. I’ve won titles, qualified for playoffs. That’s why this season hurt me. I’m sitting in a corner and crying,” he said.
Will CSK Release Ashwin?
After CSK’s poor performance, former Australian cricketer Tom Moody suggested that the team release Ashwin to create room in the budget for the next auction.
Ashwin, who retired from international cricket in late 2024, still believes he has more to offer in the IPL. As he sets goals for the next season, only time will tell if CSK management gives him another chance or moves on from the veteran spinner.
