The Adelaide Strikers have made a major move ahead of BBL|15, confirming the return of England allrounder Jamie Overton as their international pre-signing. Overton, who was named the Strikers’ MVP last season, has become a fan favourite thanks to his impactful performances with both bat and ball.
Overton Secured as Pre-Draft Signing
Under Big Bash League rules, each team is allowed to secure one overseas player as a pre-draft signing, provided the player commits to the full season and the finals. Adelaide Strikers wasted no time locking in Overton, who has been instrumental in their campaign over the past two seasons.
“Securing Jamie as a pre-draft signing was a top priority for us,” said Strikers coach Tim Paine. “He changes the game with his energy, bat, and ball.”
Overton has taken 27 wickets in 18 BBL matches with an economy rate of 8.81. As a finisher, he’s scored 276 runs at an average of 69 and a strike rate of 150.81, including a standout 32* off 14 balls against the Sydney Sixers.
Overton Excited for Another Season in Adelaide
Overton expressed his excitement about rejoining the Strikers for another campaign.
“I’ve loved every moment at Adelaide Oval. The support from the fans is amazing, and I can’t wait to help the team push for the title,” he said.
The return of Overton brings a much-needed boost for the Strikers, who aim to go deep into the tournament this season.
Strikers Prepare for Draft with Key Changes
Alongside Overton’s return, the Strikers have seen some squad movement. Brendan Doggett and Jake Weatherald have departed for the Renegades and Hurricanes, respectively. Meanwhile, Jason Sangha joins from Sydney Thunder after a strong domestic season.
The Strikers hold picks No. 2, 10, 23, and 26 in the upcoming BBL overseas draft, scheduled for June 19.
