Punjab Kings’ IPL 2025 campaign ended in heartbreak as they lost the final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six runs. But for new captain Shreyas Iyer, it’s just the beginning.
Despite the disappointment of a second IPL final loss in his career, Iyer remained optimistic. He hailed the performance of RCB’s bowlers, especially Krunal Pandya, whose 2 for 17 proved decisive.
“Krunal was simply phenomenal… the turning point of the match,” Iyer acknowledged, noting that Punjab struggled to chase what he believed was a par score of 200 on the Ahmedabad pitch.
Iyer Praises Young Team’s Fearless Attitude
Even in defeat, Iyer focused on the positives. He lauded the efforts of PBKS’s young and energetic squad, including rising talents like Priyansh Arya, Nehal Wadhera, and Prabhsimran Singh.
“The fearless nature they showed was phenomenal… I’m proud of each and every individual,” he said.
The Job Is Not Done Yet
What stood out most was Iyer’s promise to PBKS fans. While the title slipped away this time, he made it clear the hunger remains.
“Job is still half done… we will receive the trophy next year,” Iyer declared, signaling his intent to bring Punjab their first-ever IPL title in 2026.
With a young team gaining valuable experience and Iyer’s strong leadership, PBKS are already being tipped as serious contenders for next season.
