India Earns ₹12.32 Cr Despite Missing WTC Final Spot

Team India may have missed out on a third straight appearance in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, but they’ve still emerged with a massive financial reward. India will receive $1.44 million (approx ₹12.32 crore) from the ICC for finishing third in the WTC 2023–25 standings, almost equal to the prize money won by past champions.

The ICC increased the WTC prize pool to $3.6 million, more than double from previous cycles, in an effort to strengthen Test cricket’s global appeal.

Australia or South Africa to Take Record Payout in WTC Final

The upcoming WTC final at Lord’s on June 11 will feature Australia vs South Africa. The winner will receive a record $3.6 million, while the runner-up will take home $2.16 million.

India’s WTC Journey and Setback

India led the WTC standings for a major portion of the cycle but slipped to third after a 3-1 series loss in Australia and a 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand. South Africa topped the table with 69.44%, followed by Australia (67.54%), and India (50.00%).

ICC’s Focus on Test Cricket

“The increase in prize money exhibits the ICC’s efforts to prioritise Test cricket,” the governing body stated.

The hike aims to elevate the prestige of the longest format and reward teams for consistent performances throughout the two-year cycle.
