Pooran and Maxwell to Lead MI New York and Washington Freedom in MLC 2025

Pooran, Maxwell to Lead in MLC 2025 Season

Nicholas Pooran has been named the new captain of MI New York ahead of the Major League Cricket 2025 season. He replaces Kieron Pollard and brings strong credentials after his match-winning knock of 137 not out in the 2023 final. Pooran was the top run-scorer last season with 388 runs and has been a vital part of the MI franchise across leagues.

Maxwell Takes Over Washington Freedom

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has taken over the captaincy of Washington Freedom, replacing Steven Smith. Maxwell, who recently stepped away from ODI cricket, is now focusing on the T20 format ahead of the World Cup. Freedom won the previous MLC title and will begin their title defense under Maxwell’s leadership on June 13.

Other Teams Stick With Existing Captains

Corey Anderson will continue to lead the San Francisco Unicorns, remaining the only USA-based captain in the league. Heinrich Klaasen stays on as captain of Seattle Orcas. Faf du Plessis (Texas Super Kings) and Sunil Narine (Los Angeles Knight Riders) are also expected to continue in their roles.

The MLC 2025 season begins June 13 with Freedom facing Unicorns in Oakland. The grand final is scheduled for July 12 and promises high-quality cricket with international stars leading the charge.
