One year after lifting the T20 World Cup trophy in Barbados, members of India’s victorious squad gathered in Birmingham to celebrate the anniversary of their historic triumph. As the team prepares for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, they took a moment to relive the emotional high of ending India’s ICC title drought.
In a video shared by the BCCI, players including Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj were seen enjoying the occasion at a local Birmingham restaurant. Two cakes were brought out—one reading “Team India” and the other “Champions T20 WC 2024″—to mark the celebration.
Jasprit Bumrah takes the lead
After some playful back-and-forth over who would cut the cakes, Jasprit Bumrah finally stepped forward, taking charge just like he did in the final a year ago, when his death bowling turned the game against South Africa. Siraj followed suit, slicing the second cake after being nudged by Arshdeep, who urged, “Paaji, kaato na.”
Pant’s banter with Jadeja
Rishabh Pant lightened the mood by teasing Ravindra Jadeja about the anniversary of his T20I retirement, joking that they were marking his one-year milestone too. Jadeja, who retired from T20Is after the final alongside Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, responded in jest, reminding everyone he still plays in the other two formats.
The group then shared bites of cake, capturing a heartfelt moment of unity and nostalgia.
Looking ahead
This reunion celebration comes amid a tough red-ball tour in England, where India lost the first Test. Whether this camaraderie helps fuel a comeback in the rest of the series remains to be seen, but the joy of remembering the 2024 triumph certainly added a boost to the team’s morale.
