Mohammed Siraj Breaks Silence on Leading Pace Attack in Bumrah’s Absence at Edgbaston

Mohammed Siraj on Leading India’s Attack at Edgbaston

India’s fast bowler Mohammed Siraj delivered a standout performance on Day 3 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, claiming 6 wickets and leading the pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Siraj played a key role in wrapping up England’s innings for 407, helping India gain a crucial first-innings lead of 180 runs.

Speaking to JioHotstar after stumps, Siraj opened up about the responsibility of spearheading the attack, his mindset, and the importance of patience on a slowing Edgbaston pitch.

“I Love the Responsibility” – Siraj

With Bumrah rested as part of workload management, Siraj stepped up as the senior-most pacer, leading a young pace unit that included Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna.

“Akash Deep is playing just his 3rd or 4th Test match. The same with Prasidh. I have played 38 Tests. My aim was to deliver with consistency and build pressure,” Siraj said.

He admitted that life’s challenges have shaped him to handle big moments.

“I love a challenge. I’ve come from a tough background, and I enjoy responsibility. It brings out the best in me,” he added.

Six-Wicket Haul and Special Milestone

Siraj’s figures of 6/100 marked his first-ever five-wicket haul in England, making the moment extra special.

“It’s unbelievable. I’ve been waiting for a year for a five-wicket haul. I always got stuck at 4. To finally get six wickets here in England — this is very special.”

He dismissed key batters including Zak Crawley, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and three lower-order wickets as India seized control late on Day 3.

On the Match Situation and Pitch Conditions

India ended Day 3 at 64/1 in their second innings, with an overall lead of 244 runs. Siraj emphasized the team’s intent to build a massive lead, knowing England’s aggressive mindset.

“We’re ahead, but our plan is to get as many runs as possible. Their mindset is attacking, so we must be ready.”

He also spoke about pitch behavior:

“The pitch is slowing down every day. If runs start leaking, it’s tough to stop. So patience becomes critical.”

Looking Ahead

India will look to extend their lead and set a formidable fourth-innings target for England as the match enters a pivotal stage. With Siraj in rhythm and confidence high, the visitors will hope to level the series in Birmingham.
