Pakistan’s poor form raises contract concerns

Pakistan Stars Fear Pay Cut After Poor Results

The Pakistan cricket team’s struggles across formats this year have put its senior stars under pressure. Reports claim that Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and other leading players could face a pay cut as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) considers removing a lucrative clause from central contracts.

ICC revenue share under review

According to a Cricket Pakistan report, the PCB is likely to scrap the 3% ICC revenue share currently paid to players. This share was added two years ago after senior players pressured the then-chairman to include it. Legal hurdles have so far prevented the board from ending the arrangement outright, but insiders suggest the upcoming contracts may be the last to feature the benefit.

Disappointing results in all formats

Pakistan’s performances in 2025 have been underwhelming. The team has won just one of three Tests this year, managed only two wins from 11 ODIs, and split 14 T20Is evenly with seven wins and seven defeats. The latest low came in an ODI series loss to the West Indies — their first bilateral ODI defeat to the Caribbean side since 1991.

Humiliating defeat to West Indies

In the final ODI, Shai Hope’s unbeaten 120 and Jayden Seales’ six-wicket haul powered the West Indies to a crushing 202-run victory — Pakistan’s heaviest ODI defeat against them. The result capped a run of home and away series setbacks that have intensified scrutiny on the team’s leadership and performance standards.
