R Ashwin Responds to CSK Statement on Brevis Signing

R Ashwin Clarifies Dewald Brevis IPL Signing

Ravichandran Ashwin has issued a clarification after his comments on Dewald Brevis’ signing by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) sparked a social media controversy. The CSK franchise had signed Brevis as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh during IPL 2025, paying him INR 2.20 crore, equal to Gurjapneet’s original contract. Brevis had not been picked in the mega auction, where his base price was INR 75 lakh.

CSK released an official statement confirming that all procedures were properly followed. Reacting to the clarification, Ashwin explained that his previous remarks were factual and not intended to imply any wrongdoing by the franchise or the player.

Ashwin Praises Brevis’ Form and Explains Signing Rules

Speaking on his channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’, Ashwin highlighted Brevis’ impressive performances, including his maiden T20I century against Australia. “The way Brevis is batting, CSK has struck gold. He is a power-striker and a monstrous hitter against spin,” he said. Ashwin further explained that IPL rules for injury replacements are common and fully regulated. He emphasized that franchises communicate with players, their agents, and the BCCI before signing a replacement, leaving no room for errors.

Ashwin concluded by saying that he intended to focus on Brevis’s talent, rather than the signing amount. Fans of CSK and South Africa should be excited, as Brevis has shown he is a special talent capable of making a significant impact in the IPL.
