India drew the five-match Test series in England 2-2, showcasing character, skill, and resilience. With veteran players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin absent, the team relied on youth and new leadership under Shubman Gill. Washington Sundar credited the dressing room energy and camaraderie for the team’s ability to perform under pressure, especially during the dramatic final day at the Oval.
“Just the way the whole dressing room and atmosphere was created, it was fabulous. We are all quite young and that’s extremely exciting,” Sundar said in an interview with Wisden. He added that each player had to step up at crucial moments, which they successfully did across the series.
Young Indian Squad Shows Resilience and Responsibility
Sundar highlighted that many individuals in the team were willing to take responsibility and deliver when it mattered. India recovered from early defeats at Edgbaston and Lord’s to secure two memorable wins and level the series.
“There were so many individuals who stepped up and won the situations and eventually won games for the team. This is exactly the kind of team we wanted to be a part of, and we have created amazing bonds on and off the field,” Sundar said.
The new-look Indian team under Shubman Gill’s captaincy can consider this overseas tour a success. The challenge ahead will be to maintain consistency and continue building on the team spirit that helped them perform admirably in England.
