Kolkata Knight Riders have lost 2 games in a row. The bowling unit looks a little clueless when the pitch is not assisting their spinners.
On Sunday, they lost to Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets. Lockie Ferguson, who had an economy of 11.40 and took a wicket in 1.4 overs for Kolkata, had a bad day for the pacers. 19 runs were also lost by the Kiwi pacer. India’s Shardul Thakur scalped a wicket in two overs for 25 runs at an economy rate of 12.50. Umesh Yadav, on the other hand, gave up 19 runs in two overs while batting at 9.50 economy.
Yusuf Pathan, a former KKR player, questioned Rana’s team selection process after the game. Ferguson, according to the former India great, should not have been chosen if the new ball hadn’t been given to him.
Yusuf speaks
“I was surprised as to why did he select Ferguson in the playing XI. If you are not going to give him the new ball, then why is he playing? He is now bowling that well, so maybe change him for someone else because his pace bowling attack is coming across as very weak”, he said.
“Shardul Thakur, Ferguson, and Umesh Yadav are there. Last season, Umesh was brilliant and showed good form. But he needs a wicket-taking partner so that the entire pressure doesn’t fall on him. If there is so much pressure on a fast bowler, then maybe even he won’t be able to perform well. The other two pacers need to perform better. They should also check for other options,” he further added.
The Kolkata Knight Riders have already dropped their second straight game in the IPL 2023, falling to losses to Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. The Nitish Rana-led team fell to MI by five wickets in their most recent match (Match 22), and fans and experts have questioned Rana’s team selection. Ishan Kishan’s knock of 58 runs off 25 balls helped MI achieve 186/5 in 17.4 overs while chasing a goal of 186 runs. Suryakumar Yadav, meanwhile, eventually found his form with a significant innings of 43 runs off 25 balls. Impact Player Suyash Sharma grabbed two wickets for the KKR bowling unit.
