The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received a major boost ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against Rajasthan Royals, as speed sensation Mayank Yadav rejoined the squad. The 22-year-old pacer is expected to be available for Saturday’s game in Jaipur, giving LSG’s bowling unit a much-needed upgrade.
Mayank Yadav’s Comeback After Injury Woes
Mayank had been out of action since his T20I debut series against Bangladesh last year. After missing the domestic season due to a back injury, his return was delayed further by a toe injury sustained while stubbing his foot against a bed — which led to an infection. He has since completed rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The franchise officially announced his return on social media with a video captioned, “Mayank Yadav is back.”
Langer Confirms Mayank’s Fitness
LSG head coach Justin Langer recently confirmed that Mayank was close to full fitness. “Mayank is up and running, which is really great for Indian cricket and for the IPL. I saw some video of him bowling yesterday at the NCA. He was bowling at about 90 to 95%,” Langer said.
A Game-Changer for LSG
Mayank Yadav made headlines in IPL 2024 with his raw pace, consistently bowling over 150 km/h and clocking a top speed of 156.7 km/h. Despite playing only four matches, his impact was enough for LSG to retain him before the 2025 mega auction.
His return comes at a crucial time for LSG, who are currently fifth on the IPL 2025 points table with four wins from seven games.
Injury Crisis Eased for LSG
LSG started the season with multiple key bowlers — including Mayank, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep — ruled out. While Shardul Thakur was brought in as cover and has impressed, the return of Mayank will add much-needed firepower to their bowling attack.
Avesh Khan and Akash Deep have also recovered and contributed in recent matches, helping stabilize the lineup.
