Srikkanth Slams Rajasthan Royals’ Super Over Tactics After Loss to Delhi Capitals

Srikkanth Slams RR’s Super Over Tactics vs DC

Former India opener and World Cup winner Krishnamachari Srikkanth did not hold back after Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) dramatic Super Over defeat to Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025. In a fiery post on social media, Srikkanth called RR’s Super Over selection “terrible,” pointing to a major tactical blunder that cost them the game.

DC Clinch Thriller in Super Over

Wednesday’s clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium turned out to be the first Super Over of IPL 2025. RR, chasing 189, ended their innings at 188/4, taking the game into the decider. However, DC made quick work of it, chasing 12 runs in just four balls.

RR sent Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag to bat in the Super Over against Mitchell Starc, but the decision backfired. The duo could only manage 11 runs for the loss of two wickets.

Srikkanth Lashes Out at RR’s Decision-Making

Srikkanth expressed his disappointment on X (formerly Twitter), questioning the decision to send Parag and Hetmyer instead of in-form batters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana.

“Such terrible decisions by RR… you sent two batters who were struggling, it was literally a walkover for DC! One thing is certain – Catches Win Matches!” Srikkanth wrote.

His criticism was echoed by many fans who believed RR lost the match in the strategy room rather than on the field.

Jaiswal and Rana Were in Form

During the regulation innings, Jaiswal and Rana both scored solid 51-run knocks, keeping RR in the hunt. In contrast, Hetmyer (15* off 9) and Parag (8 off 11) struggled for fluency, making their selection in the Super Over more questionable.

Samson Reflects on Missed Opportunity

RR skipper Sanju Samson praised Mitchell Starc’s performance but admitted the loss was a hard pill to swallow.

“Starcy is one of the best in the world. He won them the game in the 20th over,” Samson said.
“A win today could have created some positivity in the dressing room.”

With this defeat, Rajasthan Royals have now lost five out of their seven games and sit in a challenging position on the points table.
