In a rain-curtailed IPL 2025 match on Friday at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) found themselves in a dismal situation, posting a mere 95/9 in 14 overs, thanks to Tim David’s brave 50 off 26 balls. Punjab Kings (PBKS) chased down the target with ease, winning by 5 wickets with 11 balls to spare.
Sehwag’s Criticism of RCB Batting Performance
Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag wasted no time in pointing out the lack of application from RCB’s batters. Sehwag said that none of the RCB players demonstrated common sense in their batting approach. “RCB batted poorly. All of them played reckless shots to get out. Not a single batter was out to a good ball,” he stated.
The lack of partnerships and continuous wickets falling left RCB struggling from the get-go. At one point, they were reduced to 42/7 in just 8.2 overs, and it seemed like they might end up with one of their lowest scores in IPL history. Sehwag added that at least one batter should have applied themselves and ensured the team posted a more competitive total.
The Impact of PBKS Bowlers
While RCB’s batting failed, Sehwag also acknowledged the good work of PBKS bowlers, especially Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar, for their disciplined efforts. Sehwag pointed out, “There is a difference between getting wickets and earning wickets.” The PBKS bowlers, led by Arshdeep’s early breakthroughs and Brar’s back-to-back wickets, kept RCB under constant pressure.
Sehwag’s Views on Captain Rajat Patidar’s Leadership
Sehwag didn’t hold back when discussing RCB captain Rajat Patidar. He expressed frustration with Patidar’s lack of accountability, particularly regarding the team’s recurring batting failures. “Patidar has to think and come up with a solution,” Sehwag remarked. RCB has now suffered three straight losses at home, a worrying trend that Sehwag highlighted.
Sehwag further added, “It’s not alright if your batters continuously fail at home. Who is going to rectify that?” As RCB’s losses pile up, Sehwag urges Patidar to take responsibility and address the team’s batting woes.
RCB’s Struggles at Home
RCB’s third consecutive loss at home in the ongoing IPL 2025 season has further intensified concerns. Despite strong performances from their bowlers, who restricted PBKS to just 161, the batters failed to capitalize, leaving RCB with plenty of work to do.
With their inconsistent performances, especially at home, Sehwag emphasized the need for a fix in RCB’s batting line-up if they are to get back into the playoff race.
