Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson is facing uncertainty for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after experiencing a side injury in the previous match. The Royals’ head coach, Rahul Dravid, shared that the team is awaiting scan results to determine Samson’s availability for the crucial match.
Injury Update: Samson’s Doubtful for RR vs LSG
During Rajasthan Royals’ match against Delhi Capitals, Samson, while attempting a cut shot off Vipraj Nigam’s bowling, appeared to be in considerable discomfort, clutching his left side around the rib area. Following the injury, he retired out after scoring 31 off 19 balls, and did not return to bat.
Dravid informed the media on Friday that the team is still waiting for the scan results. “Sanju experienced a bit of pain in the abdominal area,” Dravid said. “We have gone for scans, and once we get more clarity on the severity of the injury, we will decide what to do moving forward.”
Possible Leadership Change: Riyan Parag to Lead RR
In case Samson is unavailable for the match, it is likely that Riyan Parag, who previously captained the team during Samson’s absence, could once again step up as the leader. This shift comes after a season where Parag stood in for Samson in the first three matches when Samson didn’t have wicketkeeping clearance.
Rift Rumors: Dravid Responds to Speculations
Following Rajasthan Royals’ loss to Delhi Capitals, rumors of a rift between captain Sanju Samson and coach Rahul Dravid began circulating, fueled by a video showing Samson standing away from the rest of the team during Super Over discussions. Samson’s refusal to join the team when asked by a player led to further speculation.
However, Rahul Dravid swiftly dismissed these rumors, labeling them “baseless.” He stated, “Sanju and I are on the same page. He’s a very integral part of our team. He’s involved in every decision and discussion.” Dravid emphasized that the team spirit remains strong, despite the challenges faced in the tournament.
