CSK’s Struggles Continue in IPL 2025
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) find themselves near elimination in IPL 2025 after their seventh defeat of the season, this time against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). With only four points from nine matches, the defending champions are struggling to stay alive in the tournament.
The team has used 20 out of their 27-player squad so far, desperately experimenting with line-ups to find a winning combination. Despite efforts like handing Dewald Brevis a debut and promoting Ayush Mhatre to the top, CSK has failed to find consistency.
Suresh Raina Slams Auction Decisions
Speaking on Star Sports, former CSK legend Suresh Raina revealed that MS Dhoni wasn’t deeply involved in the IPL 2025 auction process, contradicting the popular belief that Dhoni controls player selections.
“MS Dhoni would maybe name four or five players he wants. He wouldn’t allow such an auction. It’s the core group handling everything,” Raina explained.
He criticized the team’s current performance, pointing out that Dhoni, even at 43, is carrying the team through his leadership and effort, while several high-priced players have failed to deliver.
“Players Must Be Match-Winners,” Raina Warns
Raina questioned the commitment and performance of some senior and highly-paid players, saying:
“What are the other ten players doing? Those who are paid ₹18 crore, ₹17 crore, ₹12 crore – they’re not responding to the captain.”
He stressed the importance of identifying true match-winners and fixing repeated mistakes that have cost CSK crucial games.
A Meeting on the Horizon?
Based on Dhoni’s body language after the recent loss, Raina hinted that an internal review meeting is likely imminent:
“He knows CSK didn’t buy properly. He must have made up his mind. A big meeting is coming.”
With only five games left, CSK faces an uphill battle to salvage their season. While miracles have happened before for Chennai, 2025 may just be a step too far.
