Jaydev Unadkat Blames SRH’s IPL 2025 Struggles on Ineffective Bowling and Tough Pitches

Unadkat Blames SRH’s Poor Run on Bowling, Pitches

Ahmedabad: As Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) face the risk of an early exit from IPL 2025, India pacer Jaydev Unadkat has addressed the team’s underwhelming performance. He cited ineffective bowling partnerships and changing pitch conditions as the main reasons behind their poor run this season.

Unadkat Highlights Bowling Issues

Speaking to reporters after SRH’s latest defeat, Unadkat admitted that the team’s bowling unit has failed to work in sync.

“To do well in the IPL, you need three to four bowlers consistently delivering. This season, when two are performing, the others aren’t supporting in tandem,” he said.

Unadkat emphasized the need for coordinated bowling, comparing it to batting partnerships. Despite picking three wickets in the final over against Gujarat Titans, he acknowledged the unit hasn’t been at its best.

“We can’t fault the planning or practice—it’s the on-field execution where we’re falling short,” he added.

Pitches and Momentum Shift

Unadkat also noted that pitch conditions this season have been more challenging than in 2024, where flat tracks allowed SRH to post multiple 200+ totals.

“Last year, swing worked. This year, it’s about smart variations. The pitches are tougher, and we haven’t adapted quickly enough,” he explained.

SRH began their season strong, with a record-breaking 286/6 against Rajasthan Royals, but have since lost momentum. With only 3 wins in 10 matches, they are currently second-last on the points table.

Fielding and Powerplay Concerns

Reflecting on their recent 100-run loss to Gujarat Titans, Unadkat blamed sloppy fielding and powerplay errors for conceding over 220 runs.

“We could’ve restricted them to 200. A few dropped catches and misfields cost us 20-25 extra runs,” he admitted. “We failed to get early wickets and didn’t execute plans in the powerplay or during our chase.”

SRH managed 186/6 in response and never truly threatened the target.

Coetzee Praises GT Batters

On the other hand, Gerald Coetzee praised Gujarat Titans’ top order for their consistency. Returning to the playing XI, Coetzee took 1 for 36 and applauded his teammates for their composed and aggressive approach at the top.
