Virat Kohli has opened up about his long-standing friendship with former India pacer Ishant Sharma, calling him a “special individual” in his life. Speaking on the RCB Podcast Bold and Beyond hosted by Mayanti Langer, Kohli reflected on the emotional and empathetic bond he shares with his childhood friend and Delhi teammate.
The two cricketers have shared the field together since their early days in age-group cricket, eventually rising to the international stage just a year apart — Ishant debuting first, followed by Kohli.
“Can Share Everything Without Judgement,” Says Kohli
Kohli revealed that the connection with Ishant has been unwavering over the years.
“Ishant is someone I naturally connected with from Day 1. Absolutely nothing has changed. Whether we play together or not, I can absolutely share everything with him without any judgment, with complete understanding and empathy,” he said.
Ishant Got Emotional During India’s T20 World Cup Win
Kohli also recalled the moment Ishant Sharma was in tears during India’s T20 World Cup victory last year. While Kohli and the Indian team lifted the trophy, Ishant was on broadcasting duty.
“He knew what we were going through. Whenever you’re deeply connected with someone, you can feel their emotions. That energy reaches everyone,” Kohli said.
He explained that after years of ups and downs and near misses, the victory was emotional for the entire team and their close ones.
Kohli and Ishant: From Friendship to Friendly Rivalry
Before the RCB vs GT IPL 2025 clash at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the duo was seen catching up and sharing a warm hug. Their deep friendship was also on display last season when Ishant dismissed Kohli in an IPL match. After taking the wicket, the pacer jokingly pushed Kohli, who smiled back — a moment fans loved.
Their bond remains a rare example of loyalty, mutual respect, and unspoken understanding, both on and off the field.
