IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed on Thursday that IPL 2025 will continue as scheduled “as of now”, despite growing concerns around India-Pakistan border tensions. The BCCI is currently awaiting directives from the Indian government before making any final decisions about the fate of the tournament.
“We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government,” Dhumal told PTI after the PBKS vs DC match in Dharamsala was abandoned due to a significant technical failure.
What Happens Next?
The next fixture is scheduled for Friday in Lucknow, between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
“Yes, it is on as of now,” Dhumal said. “But obviously, it is an evolving situation and any decision will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind.”
Precautionary Measures Impact Travel Plans
The Dharamsala airport and nearby Kangra and Chandigarh airports have been closed as a precaution, affecting IPL travel logistics. As a result:
- Players and support staff from PBKS and DC will be transported to Delhi via a special train from Pathankot, about 85 km from Dharamsala.
- Teams will travel to Pathankot by road due to flight restrictions.
IPL 2025: What’s Left in the Tournament?
So far, 58 matches have been completed, including the abandoned game in Dharamsala. There are 12 league matches remaining, scheduled across the following venues:
- Lucknow – 2 matches
- Hyderabad – 1
- Ahmedabad – 3
- Delhi – 1
- Chennai – 1
- Bengaluru – 2
- Mumbai – 1
- Jaipur – 1
The playoffs are set for Hyderabad and Kolkata, although this may change depending on further developments.
Final Decision to Come from Government
While the IPL governing council is monitoring the situation closely, the final decision on whether the remainder of IPL 2025 can be safely conducted will depend on government assessment of the security environment.
