Mustafizur Rahman Heads to UAE Despite DC IPL Signing Confusion

Mustafizur Joins Bangladesh Amid IPL NOC Confusion

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman has created confusion around his availability for IPL 2025 after he flew to the UAE with the national team just hours after being signed by Delhi Capitals as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stated that they did not receive any communication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or the player himself regarding his participation, nor was a No Objection Certificate (NOC) requested.

BCB Confirms No NOC or Official Communication

Mustafizur was expected to join DC for the final leg of IPL 2025. However, the pacer shared a picture on social media wearing Bangladesh travel gear, with the caption:

“Heading to UAE to play against them. Keep me in your prayers.”

This came after BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed the lack of formal updates:

“Mustafizur is supposed to go with the team to the UAE. We have not received any communication from IPL officials or Mustafizur himself,” he told ESPNcricinfo.

Bangladesh are set to play two T20Is against UAE on May 17 and 19, followed by a five-match series against Pakistan starting May 25, which overlaps with the revised IPL schedule.

Delhi Capitals Face a Personnel Crunch

With Fraser-McGurk opting out of IPL 2025 after the Dharamsala evacuation and Mitchell Starc also likely to depart, Delhi Capitals may face a shortage of fast bowlers. The move to bring Mustafizur in may have been a preemptive step to bolster the pace unit, but his commitment to international duty now puts DC in a tough spot.

The situation arrives at a critical time for the franchise, which currently sits fifth on the IPL table, fighting for a playoff berth.

The final match of the revised IPL 2025 season is scheduled for June 3, the same day Bangladesh conclude their Pakistan series, leaving Mustafizur’s availability in serious doubt.

As the tournament resumes post-suspension, DC will likely have to look for an alternate overseas signing unless official clearance comes through from BCB—a situation that underscores the communication gaps between boards during this unusual season.
