Aakash Chopra questions Kohli and Rohit’s retirement choice

Aakash Chopra on Kohli Rohit: Should have quit white-ball

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has voiced his opinion that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma chose the wrong format to retire from. The senior batsmen quit Test cricket but plan to continue in ODIs and T20Is, which Chopra believes may hurt their motivation and form due to limited game time in white-ball formats.

Limited ODIs raise motivation concerns

Chopra pointed out that India has only nine ODIs scheduled before the next IPL, which amounts to very few match days for Kohli and Rohit to stay in rhythm. He questioned how they would keep themselves motivated and maintain fitness with such sparse playing opportunities.

Why quitting Tests was a questionable move

According to Chopra, Test cricket is the toughest format and playing it regularly provides players with more game time and preparation opportunities. He feels the duo should have continued playing Tests, where long-format cricket helps maintain form and fitness through domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy and county cricket.

Vijay Hazare Trophy reports dismissed

Chopra dismissed rumors that Kohli and Rohit would be required to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy to prove their form. He believes such talk is baseless, as their selection will not depend on performances in domestic tournaments given their stature. Instead, he stressed that staying active in Tests would have been a better strategy for longevity.
