AB de Villiers Calls Shreyas Iyer’s Shot Off Bumrah the ‘Shot of IPL 2025’

AB de Villiers Hails Shreyas Iyer’s Shot of IPL 2025

Shreyas Iyer delivered a performance for the ages in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025, smashing an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls to guide Punjab Kings (PBKS) into the final with a thrilling five-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI). Among his many remarkable strokes, one particular shot off a Jasprit Bumrah yorker caught the attention of cricketing great AB de Villiers, who labelled it the “shot of the IPL”.

The Shot That Stunned Bumrah – And AB de Villiers

On the second ball of the 18th over, Jasprit Bumrah delivered what looked like the perfect yorker — straight, fast, and aimed at the base of the stumps. But Shreyas Iyer calmly opened the face of his bat and steered it past short third-man for a boundary.

“That’s the shot of the IPL for me. That’s breaking my stumps if I’m facing it,” said AB de Villiers on JioStar.
“He gets four off that and shifts pressure back on MI. Incredible batting.”

The stroke highlighted Shreyas’ control, presence of mind, and remarkable timing under pressure.

AB de Villiers: ‘Shreyas Iyer, I Salute You’

De Villiers was full of praise for the PBKS skipper, calling him a “fantastic player” and a “level-headed leader.”

“I’m a huge fan. That innings was out of this world. Calm, classy, consistent. He stood tall under pressure,” de Villiers said.

Shreyas has now scored over 600 runs in IPL 2025 at an average of 54+, solidifying his status as one of the tournament’s standout performers.

IPL Final Awaits: PBKS vs RCB on June 3

With this win, Punjab Kings entered only their second-ever IPL final. They will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3.

As Shreyas Iyer looks to become the first captain to win IPL titles with two different franchises, fans and legends alike are watching — and applauding — every move he makes. Whether or not PBKS lifts the trophy, Iyer’s legacy in IPL 2025 is already being etched in golden letters.
