A fiery exchange erupted in the IPL 2025 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as SRH opener Abhishek Sharma clashed with LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi. The altercation followed Rathi’s celebration after dismissing Abhishek, triggering a moment of high drama at the Ekana Stadium on Monday.
Rathi dismissed Abhishek, who had smashed a blistering 59 off just 20 balls, with a catch in the deep. After the wicket, Rathi pulled off his signature notebook celebration, adding a few words that visibly provoked Abhishek. The SRH batter charged toward Rathi before umpires and LSG captain Rishabh Pant intervened to defuse the tension.
Handshake Chat Adds More Heat Post Match
Though the on-field incident had been separated by officials, tensions resurfaced during the post-match handshake. Abhishek, still seemingly agitated, exchanged a few more words with Rathi before LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya stepped in to calm things down.
Despite the moment of friction, both players kept things in control, and the match concluded without further incident.
SRH Knock LSG Out of Playoff Race
On the cricketing front, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down 206 runs, winning by six wickets and officially eliminating LSG from playoff contention.
- Abhishek Sharma was the star early on with his 20-ball 59 (6 sixes, 4 fours).
- Heinrich Klaasen (47) and Kamindu Mendis (32)* helped stabilize the chase.
- Nitish Reddy and Aniket Verma finished things off as SRH reached 206/4 in 18.2 overs.
Earlier, LSG rode on Mitchell Marsh’s 65 off 39 and Aiden Markram’s 61 off 38 for a 115-run opening stand. Nicholas Pooran chipped in with a late 45 off 26 to push the total past 200. However, their bowling couldn’t hold up, and Digvesh Rathi’s two wickets weren’t enough to prevent the loss.
