Tensions soared beyond the boundary line during the IPL 2025 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. While SRH’s six-wicket win knocked LSG out of the playoffs, it was the heated post-match drama between Abhishek Sharma and Digvesh Rathi that stole the spotlight.
The confrontation began when Rathi dismissed Abhishek for 59 and celebrated with his trademark notebook celebration, which visibly angered the SRH opener. Tempers flared as Abhishek hurled words at Rathi, prompting umpires and players to intervene.
Post-Match Tension Boils Over; Vijay Dahiya Slaps Abhishek
Though the on-field spat had calmed, things took a dramatic turn after the match during the handshake session. As Abhishek and Rathi exchanged words, LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya intervened and shockingly slapped Abhishek Sharma during the exchange.
The incident stunned both teams and required BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla to step in as a mediator. Shukla was later seen talking to both players in an attempt to defuse the tension.
Abhishek Plays Down the Incident After Match-Winning Knock
Despite the altercation, Abhishek Sharma addressed the matter in the post-match presentation, saying:
“I spoke to him after the game, and it is all good now.”
Abhishek was instrumental in SRH’s victory, scoring a blazing 59 off 20 balls with six sixes and four boundaries. His explosive knock helped SRH chase down 206 with ease and earned him praise once again as the top run-scorer for SRH this season with 373 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 192.26.
“I just wanted to express myself. The plan was to go hard in the powerplay, especially while chasing a big total,” said Abhishek, who has also registered a century and two fifties this season.
