Australia Announces World Test Championship Final Squad

Australia Names Squad for WTC Final vs South Africa

Cricket Australia has named a 15-member squad for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa at Lord’s. Sam Konstas and Cameron Green are the notable inclusions, with Green returning from injury and currently playing county cricket in England.

The final will be played just a week after the IPL ends, creating a tricky scheduling window for players who may return to India for the league’s resumption.

Green’s Return and Opening Puzzle for Australia

Cameron Green is back in the Test squad after recovering from a back injury that kept him out for most of last season. However, his return presents a selection dilemma. The team must decide how to fit him in — either as a top-order batter or replacing Beau Webster at No. 6, despite Green not being cleared to bowl until later in the year.

At the top of the order, Usman Khawaja is a confirmed opener. The bigger question is whether Sam Konstas, who was dropped for the Sri Lanka tour, will partner him, or if someone like Marnus Labuschagne could be promoted. Labuschagne’s form has been under scrutiny, and this could be a final chance for him to secure his place.

IPL Resumption Complicates WTC Final Prep

The IPL will resume on May 17, and the final is now set for June 3 — just days before the WTC Final. Players such as Mitchell Starc, Josh Inglis, and possibly Josh Hazlewood may return to India for their franchises’ final league and playoff matches.

Cricket Australia stated they will respect individual player decisions and adjust preparation plans accordingly. A pre-tour camp is scheduled in Scotland, followed by final training sessions in London before the big match at Lord’s.
