The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has raised an alarm for all stakeholders involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, including team owners, players, coaches, support staff, and commentators. The warning comes after the Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) flagged a “dubious” businessman from Hyderabad who is attempting to lure IPL participants into corrupt activities.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the ACSU believes the businessman, who has past links to bookies and punters, is trying to trap IPL players and other team members by using a variety of tactics. The BCCI has instructed all IPL teams to be extra cautious and immediately report any interactions with the suspect or anyone associated with him.
Suspicious Methods of Approach
The Hyderabad businessman, whose modus operandi has raised serious concerns, is reportedly posing as a fan to gain access to IPL participants. He has been spotted at team hotels and matches, making efforts to befriend players and staff, often inviting them to private parties. What’s more alarming is that he is offering expensive gifts to not only team members but also their families.
The businessman’s deceptive tactics don’t end there. He is also said to be targeting the families of IPL participants, offering them access to high-end jewellery stores and hotels while continuing to masquerade as an enthusiastic fan. There are even reports that the suspect may have tried to contact relatives of players living abroad, primarily through social media platforms.
ACSU’s Call for Vigilance
The ACSU has warned all IPL teams to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving this individual. The unit has emphasized the importance of staying alert to such approaches, which could compromise the integrity of the tournament.
The BCCI has taken a firm stance on this issue, reinforcing that all players, coaches, and support staff need to report any contact with the businessman or any similar figures attempting to infiltrate the IPL environment. The Board is committed to protecting the sanctity of the league and ensuring that participants remain free from external influence.
