BCCI Responds to Bengaluru Tragedy After RCB Celebration Stampede

BCCI to Act After RCB Celebration Stampede in Bengaluru

What was meant to be a historic celebration turned tragic as 11 lives were lost during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL victory roadshow near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. With growing public outrage and administrative actions already underway, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has vowed not to stay silent.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz that the board will actively introduce formal guidelines to regulate post-IPL celebration events across franchises.

“It was a private affair of RCB, but we at the BCCI are responsible for cricket in India. We will try to ensure such incidents do not recur,” Saikia stated.

Safety Over Celebration

The Karnataka government has already taken strong disciplinary action, including arrests of police officials and organizers. However, the incident has highlighted the need for central oversight—even for privately hosted celebrations.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has strongly opposed such roadshows, stating:

“Winning is important, celebrations are important, but more important than that is the life of any person… If we cannot handle crowds, these roadshows should not happen.”
