The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed hefty fines on Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer and Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Both teams were found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate, which led to financial penalties for the captains and their respective squads.
Shreyas Iyer Fined ₹24 Lakh, PBKS Squad Also Penalized
For Punjab Kings, this was their second over-rate offence of the season. As a result, Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹24 lakh, while each member of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, has been fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever is lesser.
“As it was his team’s second offence… Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs,” the BCCI confirmed in an official statement.
Despite the penalty, PBKS advanced to the final after chasing down 204 runs with five wickets in hand and six balls to spare. They will now face RCB in the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday, June 3.
Hardik Pandya Hit with Season’s Biggest Fine: ₹30 Lakh
The Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, were penalized for a third over-rate offence—the most by any team this season. Consequently, Pandya received the maximum fine of ₹30 lakh, the highest for any captain in IPL 2025.
The remaining members of the MI playing squad, including the impact substitute, were each fined either ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
“As it was his team’s third offence… Pandya was fined INR 30 Lakh,” stated the BCCI.
What’s Next: IPL 2025 Final Set for June 3
With Qualifier 2 done and dusted, Punjab Kings will now meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a much-anticipated IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
While the financial penalties have made headlines, all eyes will now be on whether Shreyas Iyer’s PBKS can lift their maiden IPL title or if RCB finally ends their long wait for glory.
