Jasprit Bumrah once again showed why he’s the most feared bowler in T20 cricket, delivering a match-turning performance in the IPL 2025 Eliminator against Gujarat Titans (GT). With Gujarat cruising in their chase of 229, it was Bumrah’s vicious yorker that broke their momentum and ignited comparisons to Sachin Tendulkar’s dominance over Shane Warne.
Bumrah’s Yorker Wrecks GT Momentum
GT were well-placed at 151/2 in 13.3 overs when Bumrah stepped in. His perfectly-executed yorker shattered Washington Sundar’s stumps, ending a fiery 48-run knock. The dismissal proved to be the turning point, with GT collapsing to 208/6, falling 20 runs short.
“In this age, every batter is haunted by Bumrah in their dreams,” said Manoj Tiwary, drawing parallels to how Warne was haunted by Tendulkar.
Stats That Don’t Lie
Bumrah’s figures — 1/27 in 4 overs — don’t fully capture the control and chaos he brought to the game. He gave away just 8 runs in the final over and ended Sundar’s threatening innings right when it mattered most.
Bumrah’s Return Shifted MI’s Fortune
Since returning from injury, Bumrah has 18 wickets in 11 matches at an economy of just 6.36. Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary and MI skipper Hardik Pandya both acknowledged his immense value:
“When Bumrah is there, more than half the job is done for the captain,” said Tiwary.
Mumbai Indians now head to Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad, carrying the confidence of their death-over genius.
