Bumrah, Krishna skip nets before 2nd Test vs England

India kicked off preparations for the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, following their defeat at Headingley. However, two key pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, did not take part in the team’s first full net session, raising fresh questions about potential changes in India’s bowling attack.

According to a report by the Times of India, Bumrah, though present at the ground, opted not to bowl or take part in any strenuous drills. This has once again brought his workload management into the spotlight. He had bowled a total of 44 overs in the first Test and played a central role in keeping India in the match with his five-wicket haul.

Is India planning a pace reshuffle for Edgbaston?

Prasidh Krishna, who picked up wickets but was expensive throughout both innings, also skipped the nets. While no injury has been reported, his absence may suggest that the team is considering a new combination for the second Test.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who had earlier indicated that Bumrah would not be used in all five Tests, reportedly had in-depth discussions with young pacers Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep during the session. Both are in contention to break into the playing XI, and if Bumrah is rested and Prasidh is dropped, the team could see both pacers featuring together.

Gill, Pant bat long as India focus on regrouping

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant spent a lot of time batting in the nets, while Mohammed Siraj also practised his batting. The team had taken a day off on Thursday and visited an adventure park for a team bonding activity.

India trail 0-1 in the five-match series and are under pressure to bounce back. The second Test begins on July 2 at Edgbaston. Final decisions on the playing XI are expected to be taken closer to match day based on pitch conditions and player fitness.
