CSK say no to RR’s big-name trade proposal

CSK reject RR’s Samson trade request for stars

The Sanju Samson transfer saga ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction has hit a roadblock after Chennai Super Kings refused Rajasthan Royals’ trade request. Reports claim RR wanted Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, or Shivam Dube in exchange for their captain, but CSK rejected the offer.

RR owner leads direct negotiations

According to a Cricbuzz report, Rajasthan Royals’ lead owner Manoj Badale has personally reached out to all nine other IPL teams to discuss Samson’s move. Talks intensified after Samson reportedly asked to be released or traded due to differences with the franchise. RR’s approach to CSK was the most high-profile, but the champions are unwilling to let go of any of their key players.

Why Samson wants to move

Samson’s frustration reportedly stems from changes in Rajasthan’s batting order during IPL 2025, which saw younger players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Riyan Parag occupy top positions. Tensions are believed to have grown further after RR released Jos Buttler, a decision Samson previously admitted was hard to accept.

Future options for the star wicketkeeper-batter

Although a move to Chennai now seems unlikely under the current proposal, Samson remains a target for multiple IPL franchises. Insiders suggest his name might not even reach the auction, as direct trade deals are being explored. However, there is still a possibility he could remain at Rajasthan, given the contractual limitations players face in such situations.
