Danish Malewar scripted history in the Duleep Trophy 2025 as he became the first Vidarbha batter to hit a double century in the tournament. Playing for Central Zone against Northeast Zone in Bengaluru, Malewar reached his milestone in only 220 balls. His knock featured 36 fours and one six, highlighting his aggressive intent.
Malewar retired out after scoring 203 runs early on Day 2, shortly before entering the record books again. He became one of the fastest Indians to score 1000 runs in First-Class cricket, achieving the landmark in just 16 innings.
Earlier, Central Zone had posted a commanding 432 for 2 in 77 overs against Northeast Zone. Malewar had already impressed with an unbeaten 198 on Day 1, batting at number three. Captain Rajat Patidar added fireworks with a quick 125 from 96 balls, while opener Aryan Juyal made 60 before retiring hurt.
Extension of His Blockbuster Ranji Trophy Season
Malewar’s Duleep Trophy brilliance extended his exceptional 2024 Ranji Trophy campaign. He was the star of Vidarbha’s title-winning run, making key contributions in crucial knockout matches. His 79 and 29 in the semifinal powered Vidarbha to an 80-run win against Mumbai.
In the final, Malewar’s brilliant knocks of 153 and 73 against Kerala sealed the trophy for his side. Finishing with 783 runs at an average of 52, he was the third-highest run-getter for Vidarbha. For a player in his early twenties, his temperament and ability to perform under pressure stood out.
Cricket-Crazy Dad Behind the Success
Malewar credits his father, Vishnu, for his cricketing journey. Coming from a lower-middle-class background, Vishnu had dreamt of making his son a cricketer.
“My father always wanted me to be a cricketer and I got into an academy when I was seven. He faced a lot of difficulties but ensured that my cricketing needs were taken care of. There were people who used to give me bats, pads and gloves when I made runs during my junior days. Money only started coming in post my under-19 days,” Malewar had told The Indian Express.
With a historic double century on his Duleep Trophy debut and a record run tally already, Danish Malewar is rapidly emerging as one of India’s most exciting young batters.
