Delhi Capitals Sign Mustafizur Rahman as Jake Fraser-McGurk Opts Out of IPL 2025

Delhi Capitals Sign Mustafizur Rahman for IPL 2025

Delhi Capitals have officially signed Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has opted out of the remaining matches of IPL 2025 due to ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.

The announcement came after Fraser-McGurk returned to Australia following the temporary suspension of the IPL after security concerns escalated in northern India.

“The JSW and GMR co-owned franchise Delhi Capitals today announced the signing of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk,” the franchise confirmed in a press release.

Fraser-McGurk’s IPL Season Cut Short

The 22-year-old Australian batter made headlines in IPL 2024 but couldn’t find form this year. In six appearances for DC in 2025, he managed only 55 runs and had already lost his spot in the playing XI before leaving.

Mustafizur’s Return Boosts DC Bowling

Mustafizur returns to Delhi Capitals, having previously played for the team in 2022 and 2023. Known for his deceptive slower balls and calmness under pressure, he brings 38 wickets in 38 IPL matches at an economy rate of 7.84.

In T20 internationals for Bangladesh, Mustafizur has taken 132 wickets in 106 matches, making him a reliable death-over specialist—an area where DC have often struggled.

With 351 wickets in 281 T20 games across domestic and global leagues, the 29-year-old is expected to provide depth and experience to the Delhi bowling attack.

What About Mitchell Starc?

Mustafizur’s signing may also hint that Mitchell Starc will not return for the remainder of the season. Reports suggest that the Australian quick is unlikely to rejoin the DC squad, especially after the league’s week-long suspension.

De Kock to Rejoin KKR
