Dream11 has officially exited its ₹358 crore sponsorship deal with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The fantasy sports platform had signed a three-year contract in July 2023, becoming the lead sponsor for both India’s men’s and women’s teams. The Dream11 logo was prominently featured on Indian jerseys during this period.
New Gaming Law Triggers Exit
The decision follows the recent passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, which criminalizes the offering and financing of online gambling. With the law now enacted, Dream11 suspended all paid contests and informed BCCI that it could no longer continue as sponsor.
No Penalty Due to Contract Clause
Despite the early exit, Dream11 will not face any financial penalty. The contract reportedly included a clause stating that if the sponsor’s core business is impacted by a government law, they are not liable to pay any remaining dues to BCCI.
BCCI Begins Search for New Sponsor
With the Asia Cup and Women’s World Cup approaching, BCCI is now exploring new sponsorship options. A board official confirmed that Dream11 representatives visited the BCCI office to formally communicate their withdrawal. A fresh tender is expected to be floated soon.
