Gujarat Titans Confirm Kagiso Rabada’s Comeback After Drug Suspension

GT Confirms Kagiso Rabada’s Return After Drug Ban

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada is ready to make his return to the IPL 2025 for Gujarat Titans after completing a one-month suspension for recreational drug use. GT Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki confirmed on Monday that all procedures were followed as per rules, and Rabada is now available for selection.

Rabada was suspended after failing a drug test during the SA20 league in January while playing for MI Cape Town. The result was communicated to him on April 1, and GT later cited “personal reasons” for his absence from the team.

All Protocols Followed, Says Vikram Solank

Solanki emphasized that the franchise followed every legal and procedural requirement. “All matters and requirements have been followed to the letter,” he said during GT’s training at Wankhede Stadium.

Rabada has also completed a “substance abuse treatment program”, as confirmed by the South African Institute for Drug Free Sports (SAIDS), making him eligible to play again.

Rabada Expresses Regret, Vows to Focus on Cricket

The 29-year-old fast bowler has expressed regret over what he called an “error in judgement.” Solanki added, “Kagiso has shown maturity. He knows this is something personal and does not want it to distract the team.”

Solanki praised Rabada for his honest conversations and readiness to move forward. “He’s spent time reflecting and now understands how much he values the game. He’s ready to give it his all again.”

Focus Remains on Team and Cricket, Says GT

Solanki made it clear that while incidents like these can be distractions, Rabada has handled it well and is keen to keep the team focused. “He told the squad this is his issue to deal with and doesn’t want it affecting team morale or performance.”

On questions about whether the one-month ban was enough, Solanki said, “Punishments are defined by the governing bodies, not us. If one month was deemed appropriate, we respect that.”

Rabada Joins Squad Ahead of MI Clash

With just days left in the league stage, Rabada’s return could boost GT’s bowling lineup. He has already joined the squad in training and is expected to be available for the upcoming match against Mumbai Indians.
