In the 22nd over of India’s chase, Deol attempted a quick single off Charlie Dean’s bowling with Harmanpreet Kaur at the non-striker’s end. While the direct hit by Davidson Richards appeared close, replays showed that Deol’s bat and feet were both in the air when the ball hit the stumps. The third umpire ruled her out, sparking immediate reactions on social media, with many fans calling out the lapse in focus.
Despite the dismissal going viral for the wrong reasons, India went on to win the match and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
India Beat England to Go 1-0 Up in ODI Series
India’s women’s team bounced back from a tricky middle phase to secure a four-wicket win over England in the first ODI at Southampton. After England chose to bat, Kranti Goud gave India the early breakthrough, dismissing both openers. A strong partnership between Nat Sciver Brunt and Emma Lamb, followed by a century stand between Sophia Dunkley (83) and Davidson Richards (53), took England to 258/6.
Sneh Rana starred with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 31 runs, while Goud also picked up two.
Chasing 259, India got off to a promising start with Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal adding 48 runs. Harleen Deol also chipped in with 27 before her unfortunate dismissal. Jemimah Rodrigues (48) and Deepti Sharma (62*) then built a match-winning 87-run partnership. Deepti, alongside Amanjot Kaur (20*), ensured India crossed the line with 10 balls to spare.
India now leads the ODI series 1-0, with the next match expected to offer more thrilling moments and another chance for redemption for Harleen Deol.
