India U19 Squad for Australia Tour Announced: Ayush Mhatre to Captain, Vaibhav Suryavanshi the Star Attraction

India U19 Squad Named for Australia Tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the India U19 squad for the upcoming tour of Australia, scheduled to begin on September 21, 2025, with a three-match Youth ODI series followed by two four-day Youth Test matches. The selectors have largely retained the core group that recently toured England, backing consistency and proven performers.

At the helm of the squad is Mumbai’s rising star Ayush Mhatre, who continues as captain for both formats. Mhatre, who also plays senior domestic cricket for Mumbai, was the leading run-scorer in the Youth Test series against England, amassing 340 runs across two matches. His composure and leadership on overseas pitches have cemented his position as the team’s natural leader.

However, it is 14-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi who remains the biggest talking point. The gifted opener is set to light up Australian conditions with his fearless strokeplay. After a quiet red-ball series in England, Suryavanshi will be eager to make a stronger impact in the longer format. His explosive 58-ball century against Australia earlier this year in Chennai already raised eyebrows—and expectations.

Team Core Remains Intact

The India U19 squad showcases a solid mix of youth, experience, and versatility:

  • Vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra retains his spot after a consistent showing in England.
  • Wicketkeepers Abhigyan Kundu and Harvansh Singh offer balance with both gloves and the bat.
  • All-rounder RS Ambrish, pacers Kishan Kumar and Kanishk Chouhan, along with spinners Henil Patel and Khilan Patel, complete a well-rounded bowling attack.

Suryavanshi vs Australia: The Rematch Fans Are Waiting For

The standout performer from the Youth ODIs against England, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, will have all eyes on him as India U19 returns to take on the Aussies in their own backyard. His blistering white-ball form and earlier hundred against Australia makes him a key figure this series.

Meanwhile, Mhatre will look to guide the team tactically in the red-ball leg, having shown maturity beyond his age with the bat and in leadership roles.

The series not only promises high-quality cricket but also serves as a key stepping stone toward the next U19 World Cup, making this tour crucial for India’s bench strength.
