Indo-Pak Conflict Forces Cricket Shutdown: IPL 2025 Suspended

IPL 2025 Suspended Indefinitely Amid Indo-Pak Conflict

As the geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan are on the rise, the BCCI has suspended the ongoing league.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced that IPL 2025 has been called off indefinitely. Amid the war-like situations between India and Pakistan, the board has taken this decision due to safety concerns.

“It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war,” a BCCI official told PTI.

Following the cancellation of the match between PBKS and DC, the players and staff members have grown anxious over their safety. The Dharamsala stadium is located 100 kilometres from where the raid alerts sounded. As a result, overseas players, especially, have raised their concerns and are ready to return home.

IPL 2025 and How Many Matches Left?

The IPL was headed towards the final few matches of the league before the suspension.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were supposed to face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) today, May 9, before news broke of the league being called off.

With 58 matches completed, there are still 16 matches left in the league, including the playoffs and the final.

IPL 2025’s Future

With the suspension of IPL 2025, the future of the remaining matches remains uncertain. At this stage, it is very unlikely that India will tour Bangladesh and participate in the Asia Cup late this year. BCCI will likely use that window to conduct the remaining IPL matches if needed.

India is scheduled to travel to England in the first week of June for the five-test series. So, the August-September window could be BCCI’s best option to complete the remainder of the IPL.

The Indian cricket board is ensuring that all players and staff members are safe and not in panic. It was reported that players from both teams were in a state of shock after what happened during the game between PBKS and DC. The players have been reported to have left Dharamsala early in the morning.
