The IPL 2025 season took a dramatic turn on Thursday as the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) was abruptly called off in Dharamsala due to rising Indo-Pak tensions. The abandonment triggered panic among players and fans alike, with foreign cricketers expressing deep concerns over their safety.
Match Suspended Amid Security Threats
The game had reached just 10.1 overs when the floodlights at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium suddenly went off. Spectators were quickly instructed to evacuate, and players were rushed off the field. The sudden halt was reportedly due to an emergency alert received by the HPCA, following air raid alarms and failed aerial attacks by Pakistan on Indian border cities, including nearby Pathankot.
According to eyewitnesses and players, chaos unfolded as both teams were immediately escorted to their hotels — some players still in match kits. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal was seen urging fans to leave the stadium promptly as security protocols took over.
Players ‘Panicked’ as Buses Swapped
In an interview with The Indian Express, a player revealed the tension in the dressing rooms. “There was some panic. We were told about attacks in nearby Pathankot and asked to go back to the hotel immediately. Delhi Capitals players were in the Punjab team bus and vice-versa. The foreign players especially looked worried and many are considering leaving India.”
The mid-match evacuation and blackout have led to speculation about whether the IPL 2025 season will continue as scheduled.
BCCI Monitoring the Situation
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the Board is reviewing the situation closely. “We are seeking advice from the government and will decide tomorrow,” he told reporters. With northern Indian airports closed due to security alerts, the BCCI is considering rail transport or emergency charters for player movement.
Franchise owners are reportedly coordinating closely with foreign players and are prepared to arrange departures for those who no longer wish to stay.
What’s Next for IPL 2025?
With Operation Sindoor underway and escalating geopolitical conflict, the future of IPL 2025 remains uncertain. While upcoming matches are still officially scheduled, the BCCI has signaled that changes or relocations could happen depending on further advisories.
As cricket fans await updates, player safety remains the top concern — and the cricketing world holds its breath for what’s next.
