A cheerleader working at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 described a terrifying scene after a sudden blackout halted the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala on Thursday. The encounter at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium was called off midway due to a sudden power outage and rising security concerns.
The incident occurred when Punjab was cruising at 122/1 in 10.1 overs. Suddenly, the stadium lights dimmed and eventually shut off completely. Umpires and players quickly left the field as evacuation orders were issued. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal was seen directing the crowd to exit for safety.
Viral Video: “It Was Scary, Everyone Was Screaming”
Amid the chaos, a cheerleader captured a chilling moment in a viral video. She expressed shock and fear while exiting the stadium, saying:
“The whole stadium was evacuated in the middle of the game. It was very scary. Everyone was screaming that there were bombs coming… I hope IPL people look after us.”
The blackout followed air raid alerts in nearby regions including Jammu and Pathankot. The ongoing military tensions between India and Pakistan—triggered by a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22—have cast a shadow over the continuation of IPL 2025.
IPL in Jeopardy? BCCI Awaits Govt Direction
Reacting to the situation, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal stated:
“It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government yet. A final decision will be made considering logistics and stakeholder safety.”
Despite Thursday’s match being called off, Dhumal confirmed that the LSG vs RCB match in Lucknow is still scheduled to proceed as planned—at least for now.
As the tension rises, the IPL and its participants, including players, officials, and support staff, remain on high alert, with further updates expected in the coming days.
