Ishan Kishan’s Bizarre Dismissal: A Strange Decision in IPL 2025

Ishan Kishan’s Bizarre Dismissal Sparks Debate in IPL 2025

Ishan Kishan’s dismissal during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday has become one of the most talked-about moments of IPL 2025. The left-handed opener’s bizarre decision to walk off without any visible edge or appeal left fans and former cricketers scratching their heads.

The Incident: Ishan Kishan Walks Off Without Clear Evidence

In a match that was already slipping away from SRH, Ishan Kishan’s dismissal only added to their woes. Kishan, facing Deepak Chahar, attempted to glance a delivery that was clearly drifting down the leg side. The ball missed his bat by a noticeable margin and was safely collected by Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton.

However, there was no appeal from either Rickelton or Chahar, and umpire Vinod Seshan appeared ready to call it a wide. But, in an unexpected twist, Ishan began walking off the field, seemingly convinced he had edged the ball. The strangest part of the incident was that there was no clear edge, no sound, and no visible reason for Kishan to walk.

No Appeal, No Review: Why Did Ishan Walk?

The replays revealed no contact with the ball, adding to the confusion surrounding the dismissal. The lack of an appeal from the fielding side, combined with the umpire’s hesitation, made Kishan’s decision to walk off even more perplexing. Given the technology available for review, many questioned why Ishan didn’t take advantage of the DRS to challenge the decision.

After the game, former cricketers like Varun Aaron and Nick Knight were left stunned by the incident. Aaron described Kishan’s walk-off as “bizarre,” emphasizing that no batsman would walk off unless they were certain they had hit the ball. “When the umpire was hesitant, there was no real appeal from the fielders, he should’ve just reviewed it,” Aaron told ESPNCricinfo.

Knight Adds to the Debate: “Bizarre, Totally Bizarre”

Nick Knight echoed similar sentiments, saying, “I reckon I’d know if I hit it. I can’t think of an instance where I wouldn’t. Bizarre, totally bizarre.” He further questioned the umpire’s decision to raise his finger after seeing Kishan walk off the field. “The umpire was giving it not out, then he suddenly sees him walking and gives him out… it was confusing,” Knight added.

Manoj Tiwary Also Baffled

Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary expressed his bewilderment on social media, writing, “Ishan Kishan’s dismissal today against Mumbai Indians? I’m waiting to hear from Ishan himself, what was he thinking at that time? Baffling.”

SRH’s Batting Collapse and Dismal Performance

Ishan’s dismissal proved to be a major setback for SRH, who were already struggling to keep up in the match. The Sunrisers could only manage to score 143/8 in their 20 overs after a batting collapse. Mumbai Indians chased down the target comfortably in just 15.4 overs, winning by seven wickets with plenty of overs to spare.

With this loss, SRH’s hopes for the playoffs took another big hit, as the side languished at ninth position with just two wins from eight matches.
