The upcoming England vs India Test series will carry a new name—the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, replacing the long-standing Pataudi Trophy. The ECB and BCCI jointly announced the tribute to two of the game’s greatest icons: James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar.
Recently retired and the most successful fast bowler in Test history, Anderson expressed his gratitude and awe at sharing the honour with the legendary Indian batter.
“It’s a huge honour. I still can’t quite believe it,” Anderson said at a DP World event at Lord’s.
“Sachin is someone I looked up to growing up—though I don’t want to do him a disservice with his age,” he joked.
Anderson Reflects on Battles with Tendulkar
Anderson and Tendulkar faced each other many times on the Test stage, giving fans countless thrilling moments.
“I remember watching him, playing against him, and now to have a trophy named after both of us—it’s something I’m very proud of,” Anderson added.
Sachin Tendulkar, with 200 Tests and over 15,000 runs, is widely considered one of the greatest batters in cricket history. Meanwhile, Anderson retired after playing 188 Tests, finishing with 700+ wickets and redefining longevity in fast bowling.
From Pataudi to Anderson-Tendulkar: A New Era
Until now, the England-India Test series had:
- Pataudi Trophy (when played in England)
- Anthony de Mello Trophy (when played in India)
The renaming unifies the rivalry under one iconic banner for future bilateral Test series.
Anderson on Playing Against India
“There are some great memories. After the Ashes, India was always the biggest series for England,” Anderson said.
He recalled England’s 2007 Test series win in India as a “really special moment” in his career and praised the intense battles with India’s greats over the years.
