In a major move for South Australian cricket, Jason Sangha has signed a two-year deal with the Adelaide Strikers, marking a full domestic transition from Sydney Thunder. Sangha, who was with Thunder since joining as a 16-year-old rookie, has proven his mettle in both formats, and now he’s ready to bring his experience to the Strikers.
A Stellar Record with Sydney Thunder
Sangha’s career with Sydney Thunder has been noteworthy, and he capped off his tenure in style by top-scoring in the BBL final last season with a quickfire 67 off 42 balls. Despite missing part of the previous season due to injury, his consistency and leadership have been invaluable. In total, Sangha made 836 runs for Thunder at an average of 32.15 and a strike rate of 121.15. His performance earned him the captaincy for BBL12, though his season was cut short by a fractured collarbone.
A Standout Sheffield Shield Season
Sangha’s move to the Strikers follows a sensational run in the Sheffield Shield, where he was instrumental in South Australia’s title-winning campaign. Scoring 704 runs at an average of 78.22, including a match-winning 126* against Queensland, Sangha showcased his top-tier ability in red-ball cricket. His form has even placed him in consideration for an Australia A spot for upcoming series against Sri Lanka and India.
Sangha Excited for Strikers Move
“I’m eager to give my best on the field in the upcoming BBL season,” Sangha said. “The fans here have been incredibly welcoming, and I’m excited to create many more unforgettable moments while wearing blue. The support from the community has been amazing, and I can’t wait to help the team achieve success.”
Strikers’ Talent Manager Praises Sangha’s Leadership and Skill
Shaun Williams, Strikers’ talent manager, expressed excitement about Sangha joining the squad. “Jason’s talent and dedication on the field are well-known, and his impressive track record speaks volumes about his potential,” said Williams. “Not only has he demonstrated remarkable skill, but his leadership qualities and work ethic are exceptional. We believe Jason will bring a new energy to the team.”
A New Chapter for Sangha and the Strikers
With the Strikers now locking in 10 players for the 2025-26 BBL season, including Sangha, the team is building a competitive squad. Although the Strikers and Sydney Sixers are the only clubs without a pre-signed overseas player, the Strikers’ squad looks poised for an exciting season ahead. Sangha’s leadership and all-round abilities will be crucial as he looks to contribute to the team’s success in both the Big Bash League and beyond.
