Jasprit Bumrah Reacts to Harry Brook’s 99: ‘Fate Had Decided It’

Jasprit Bumrah on Brook's 99 ‘Fate Had Decided It’

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah shared a philosophical take on Harry Brook’s dismissal for 99, during the ongoing 1st Test in Leeds. Bumrah, who took a superb 5/83 in England’s first innings, had Brook caught off a no-ball on Day 2—an error that almost proved costly.

Brook’s Lucky Breaks — and Narrow Miss

  • On Day 2, Brook was caught off a top-edged hook off Bumrah — but replays confirmed a no-ball.
  • He was dropped on 46 and 82, by Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal respectively.
  • Brook eventually fell for 99, pulling Prasidh Krishna straight to Shardul Thakur at deep square leg.

Despite the heartbreak, Bumrah credited Brook’s temperament:

“I think fate had decided on 99 for him… but that is not to take away from him. He assessed the conditions well… Full credit, he played really well,” Bumrah said in the post-day presser.

Match Summary After Day 3:

  • India 1st innings: 471
  • England 1st innings: 465
  • India 2nd innings: 90/2
  • India Lead by: 96 runs

Bumrah’s spell once again reminded the cricketing world of his match-turning abilities, but he stayed grounded—acknowledging the luck factor in cricket, and vowing to return with better plans in the next innings.
