Kuldeep Yadav Opens Up on Rohit and Virat’s Test Exit

Kuldeep shocked by Rohit Kohli’s Test retirement call

India spinner Kuldeep Yadav has admitted he was “shocked” by the sudden Test retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, calling their exits a major emotional blow ahead of India’s crucial England Test tour.

Speaking at an Indian Express panel, Kuldeep said, “I expected Ash bhai might retire due to his body, but Rohit bhai and Virat bhai’s decisions shocked me. You need your best players in big series like this.”

Kuldeep, who has played under both leaders in multiple formats, now finds himself among the more experienced players in the dressing room.

Kuldeep’s Special Bond with Rohit Sharma

Kuldeep fondly remembered how Rohit Sharma’s guidance helped shape his international comeback, especially during the victorious 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy campaigns.

“He treated me like a younger brother, on and off the field. He would explain roles clearly, even scold me when needed — and that helped me grow.”

Kohli’s Role in Kuldeep’s Test Debut

Kuldeep also recalled making his Test debut under Virat Kohli, praising Kohli’s mentorship during his early days.

“Virat bhai gave me the cap and the belief that I could do well in red-ball cricket. I was raw and immature, but he guided me like a true leader.”

India’s Spin Hope in England Tour

Kuldeep Yadav has been included in the squad for the five-Test series against England, and will play a key role under new captain Shubman Gill, especially if pitches offer spin assistance.
