As India gears up for the England Test series without two of its stalwarts, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has sparked a fresh debate by stating that fans must stop clubbing the duo together—at least in red-ball cricket.
Both Kohli and Rohit recently retired from Test cricket. While Rohit signed off after 67 Tests with 12 centuries and an average of 40.11, Kohli ended his red-ball career with 30 centuries in 123 Tests and an average of 46.85. But for Manjrekar, it’s not just about numbers—it’s about legacy and performance in testing conditions.
‘RoKo’ No More: Manjrekar’s Bold Statement
In a video shared on Instagram, Manjrekar said, “Please stop this RoKo comparison when it comes to Test cricket. There is absolutely no comparison between Rohit and Kohli in red-ball format. Kohli is in a different league.”
He continued, “Kohli has scored 12 hundreds in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia). Rohit has played over 100 innings and has just one century in these conditions.”
‘Rohit’s Average Would’ve Dropped in England’
Manjrekar even suggested that Rohit’s average might’ve dipped into the 30s had he toured England this year. “He made the right decision by retiring,” Manjrekar added, citing Rohit’s struggles in previous Test series against New Zealand and Australia, where he failed to score even a fifty in his last six Tests.
Meanwhile, Kohli, despite recent dips, has consistently delivered in tougher conditions and remains one of India’s most successful batters in overseas Tests.
